"When Mom Goes Back To School"

The October issue of Birmingham Parent, a Alabama-based magazine, features an article titled "When Mom Goes Back To School." The three-page piece highlighting the barriers that may keep parents from returning to college touches on many of the issues that AJU has discussed previously.
An exerpt from the article:
Andrew Jackson University specializes in bringing the flexibility of an online education to their students. Tammy Kassner, director of admissions, describes the programs available.
“We offer 11 different degree programs, including associates, bachelor’s, and master’s.”
The opportunities at Andrew Jackson University are not limited to degree programs. “Many working moms have degrees already and may have taken time off from the workforce to have children,” Kassner says. “We have 18 certificate programs that help moms transition back into the workforce.”
Andrew Jackson University is currently offering a sponsored tuition program in which the university partners with area corporations and organizations to offer educational scholarships for prospective students. Birmingham Parent is one such sponsor and readers of the magazine may be eligible for a zero tuition education with Andrew Jackson University. For more information, visit www.aju.edu/partners.asp.
These online courses allow you to work from the comfort of your own home and can, quite literally, fit into any schedule. Sure, you might have to finish up your term paper at 2 a.m., but at least you can do it in your pajamas with your feet slung over the side of your favorite chair.

I am so thrilled to be able to start my degree on line and equally excited that the staff is very kind, and eager to help with what direction you need to obtain your goals. That means a lot to me. I would recommend this university to everyone.

I can relate to this issue, being a working mom with a very demanding schedule. I have always wanted to go back to school, but my responsibilities with my current job would not allow this. I am also very pleased that tuition fees/rates are not an issue, thus allowing me to be able to deal with the financial demands not having to obtain other financial means.
As we are all aware, the economy is not the best right now. Opportunity to be able to obtain a degree or higher education allows parents that want to obtain better jobs in order to keep up with the demands, that option to do so.
