Short, But Still A Super Saturday

I tuned into Fox Business Network’s “Your Questions, Your Money” for its final hour on Saturday, only to be disappointed because the show was pre-empted. While the hour was announced as TheFoxDocs and small business in America, co-hosts Dagan McDowell and Adam Shapiro had to defer to comments made by Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner, from the G20 summit and then to a joint US/Brazilian press conference with President Obama.

When the show finally started at about 38 minutes past the hour, the Fox Business Network welcomed Mr. Patrick Byrne, the CEO of Overstock.com, to the show.  Byrne was able to share his insights in the mere 20 minutes he was on the show.   The most telling advice Byrne offered the viewers was that nobody should count on any government assistance or stimulus to help them be successful.  Byrne told a story about some friends of his who own a restaurant in Manhattan.  After the September 11 terrorist attacks, Byrne’s friends applied for aid from the Federal Government, specifically FEMA. After countless months, piles of paperwork and long nights waiting for help, the restaurateurs pulled their application and did it themselves….today they are very successful.

Babb & Rutledge, although limited to just a few minutes on camera, did their best to pass on additional “Pearls of Wisdom.”  Babb, who also serves as the Dean of the College of Business at Andrew Jackson University, offered information on a number of small business loan programs offered by the SBA and funded by the economic stimulus package.  Rutledge, forever the “just do it” guy, said that running a business is like gorilla warfare, you just need to battle one dollar at a time.

So, despite the interference by the Government, the real promise of the future lies with America’s entrepreneurs and TheFoxDocs,  Babb & Rutledge, are doing their best to get the message out.    A message, just like Andrew Jackson University, that education can be taken anywhere.

Happy studying
